Ephesians Prysock can be Washington’s next lockdown corner

The Washington Huskies have a potential star in cornerback Ephesians Prysock.

The Washington Huskies have a long history of dominant cornerbacks who have been recruited to and developed by the various coaching staffs on Montlake over the last 10 years. From Marcus Peters to Sidney Jones, Elijah Molden, Trent McDuffie, Kyler Gordon, and everyone in between, there is a long lineage of defensive backs on Montlake and Ephesians Prysock could be the next player to add to it.

Although he came to Seattle after beginning his career at Arizona, he still meets the criteria since he was developed by what is now Washington’s coaching staff. Cornerbacks coach John Richardson developed him into an All-Pac-12 honorable mention in 2023 and now he appears ready to assume the role of Washington’s top corner as the Huskies move into the Big Ten.

“Coach Richardson is a great dude,” Prysock said in the spring. “He’s always on you and wants you to come out and compete every day. He has a ton of energy and tries to get the most out of us every day.”

Once Richardson and the rest of Fisch’s coaching staff left Arizona for Washington, Prysock knew he’d be following them.

“They’re all great people,” he said. “They feel like family and the culture that they set down at Arizona is the same and it’s something I love being a part of.”

Defensive coordinator Steve Belichick’s scheme should allow Prysock to thrive, as it gives him the opportunity to play with a lot of freedom. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound junior is aggressive at the line of scrimmage and thanks to his long arms, will play a lot of press man coverage against the opposition’s top receiver.

He’s also an extremely fluid mover for his size and has no trouble flipping his hips when receivers get behind him with his ability to locate the ball combined with his length, can record a fair amount of pass breakups after tallying 1 interception and 7 PBU’s as a sophomore.

While the Big Ten doesn’t possess the same high-flying passing offenses that the Pac-12 did, especially in 2023, Prysock will have every opportunity to establish himself as one of the conference’s best cornerbacks in 2024.
