Few composers working in the games industry are as well-known as Inon Zur. The award-winning composer is responsible for scoring titles like Crysis, Dragon’s Dogma, Fallout: New Vegas, Soul Calibur 5, and many more. He’s also working on Bethesda’s upcoming space-faring RPG Starfield.
On Tuesday, Bethesda released Starfield’s latest developer diary, featuring a discussion between Zur and audio director Mark Lampert. The two go over soundscapes in past Bethesda titles such as The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Fallout 4 while also explaining the creative process behind Starfield from an audio perspective, specifically how the music will react to the player’s actions.
“The way I looked at Starfield always is what I call ‘The Sanctified Triplet,’ which is, everything is streaming,” Zur says in the video. “Everything is changing, and everything is returning back. Here is your development, and then, ‘ta-da,’ so basically it presents itself, it develops, it goes back.”
Lampert chimes in with some additional insight, claiming the music works alongside gameplay in a circular flow. It’s well worth watching the entire video for yourself below.

There have been several Starfield video documentaries like this one thus far, covering expansive universes, awe-inspiring moments, robotic companions, and what sorts of factions are out there.
We still have no idea when Bethesda will show Starfield off, but it may happen this summer. Many were predicting the game would be at E3, but the show was canceled last month.
