The NBA has been in hiatus since March 11 due to the novel coronavirus that has everybody protecting themselves from the virus. However, the curve is beginning to make some progress and there is hope that life can begin to return to normal in some type of capacity.
The return of basketball is not imminent at the moment, but due to the progress in the curve, there is hope that the 2019-20 season can resume. For the Philadelphia 76ers, that would mean getting to see their team in a playoff setting as they believe that they are built for the postseason.
General manager Elton Brand hopped on a conference call on Tuesday morning to discuss the efforts around the league to resume playing out the season. He then revealed that he is part of a committee that is committed to returning to play.
“Right now, I’m on a weekly GM call with (commissioner) Adam Silver that he’s leading,” he opened up with. “I’m on a committee for returning to play. They’re looking at all options. It is too early to speculate on what it’s going to be this year, but it’s going to be based on safety, it’s going to be based on health, it’s going to be based on data, not a date. We’ll figure out everything else from there.”

Despite all of what is going on right now, Brand is hopeful that the league can return to play. Especially when considering the high expectations the Sixers had entering this season. It would be a shame for it to end and come crashing down.
“We’re preparing for every scenario that we can right now,” he added. “I’m very hopeful the season will resume so we can get back out there and compete. Of course, that is once it’s deemed safe.”
Whenever that date is, the team will be prepared for the playoffs. The team has done a deep dive into their potential playoff opponent in the form of the Boston Celtics who the team took three of four matchups with this season.
At the end of the day, nothing comes above the collective health of the community and everybody involved. The season will resume whenever it is deemed safe for the players and the coaches. [lawrence-related id=30474,30466,30460]
