The Philadelphia 76ers have a lot of holes to fill in the 2020 offseason before the 2020-21 season begins–whenever the season begins. They will be in dire need of a shooter and having a backup point guard certainly wouldn’t hurt either.
However, there is one little problem. The Sixers don’t exactly have a lot of money to play with.
They will have the highest payroll in the league entering the 2020-21 season at $147 million and that means they will most likely have only about $6 million to play with. This offseason is also going to be weird for everybody involved due to the fact that nobody knows what the salary cap will look like after the financial hits the league took this season and nobody knows when free agency will even begin.
“NBPA and NBA have a lot to work out from a scenario plan,” said general manager Elton Brand. “We’re not sure if it’s going to go down, where it’s going to go, but we’ll be prepared. We have four second-round picks and a first-round pick, it gives me a lot of optionalities to make things work, but my goal and my focus is on continuing to get this team over the hump and truly contend. That’s my marching orders.”
Those draft picks will come in handy as the team continues to try and figure out what is next to come in the offseason. They will most likely need to make a trade in order to improve the roster.
“The financial realities of the world, I understand them, but my goal is to keep this team relevant and find a way to win,” Brand finished with.
There are some options in free agency that the Sixers can look at for their lack of funding, but it will be on Brand and what will most likely be a revamped front office to make it all work. [lawrence-related id=37209,37206,37194]
