The Washington Huskies women’s basketball team cruised to a 90-71 win over the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday thanks in large part to the play of Elle Ladine. The junior guard from San Francisco, California posted a career-high 40 points in the road victory, earning coach Tina Langley’s team’s first win in Big Ten play.
“There’s really not a way she can’t score. Her game has gotten really strong on both sides of the floor,” Langley said. “She’s a great player, and really humble, and really unselfish.”
Ladine, who was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention as a sophomore, also chipped in 6 assists and 2 steals in the win. She became just the second women’s basketball player in the Big Ten to post 40 points in a game, joining USC standout Juju Watkins.
“Anyone on the team can have a good night. It’s great to have a team like that,” Ladine said. “Any of us can have a day so we just have to be ready for what we have to do.”
She wasn’t alone, as forward Dalayah Daniels also turned in a stellar effort in the win. The graduate student finished the day with 20 points and 15 rebounds, adding 3 assists, 3 steals, and a block.
The win propelled the Huskies to 10-4 on the season and 1-1 in Big Ten play. Next up is a New Year’s Eve matchup on the road with the Illinois Fighting Illini, which is set to get underway at 10:00 a.m. PST.
