The recruiting weekend of April 15th has an elite player coming to South Bend. WR Dont’e Thornton of Maryland, Kevin Sinclair of Irish Illustrated reports, will be making his way to Northern Indiana for a visit. The one-time Penn State commit is an imposing figure on the field, standing at 6’5” and 190-pounds, a body type that has red zone target written all over it. The talented WR is ranked as the 44th best overall prospect in the 2021 class by the 247Sports composite.
2021 Mount Saint Joseph (Md.) WR Dont'e Thornton Jr. (@dontethorntonjr) was impressive at #NotreDame's Elite Skills Camp in 2018 and has added good weight since.

Thornton has already tried on the Irish uniform, as he attended the Elite Skill’s Camp in 2018, so he somewhat familiar with his surroundings. Since that visit, the Irish have added a new indoor facility after years of being in the Loftus Center. The coaching staff has changed also, as Tommy Rees is now calling plays, so there is a new dynamic among the coaching staff that surely Thornton wants to see.
This is an absolute win for the coaching staff in getting Thornton to return to campus, looking at his offer list that consists of LSU, Ohio State, PSU, Oregon plus others, you can see why. Although there are two WR’s already committed in the class, Deion Colzie and Lorenzo Styles Jr., adding a player of Thornton’s caliber is never a bad move.
