Ed Orgeron ‘expects to hear good news in the spring’ on QB Myles Brennan

There’s no clear timetable on when LSU quarterback Myles Brennan will be back at full capacity.

LSU football has been without starting quarterback Myles Brennan since the junior signal-caller tore his abdomen in the third game of the 2020 season against Missouri.

True freshman quarterback TJ Finley replaced him, and he was eventually overtaken by fellow first-year passer Max Johnson, who made his starting debut in LSU’s upset win over Florida in the ninth game of the season.

There is still no clear timetable for when Brennan will return to action, according to Orgeron.

“I’m going to talk to Jack (Marucci),” Orgeron said in his Tuesday appearance with Off the Bench. “I think he’s made progress. He’s not 100 percent healthy yet, but I do expect to hear some good news in the spring. He hasn’t been cleared yet.”

Brennan completed over 60% of his passes for 1,112 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions before he was sidelined last year.

He should reasonably be expected to get first-team reps once he’s back at full capacity, though the Tigers are more deep at quarterback than we’ve seen them in the past between Finley, Johnson and incoming freshman Garrett Nussmeier.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out at the position over the course of the 2021 season when the Tigers return to action on Sept. 4 against UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium.
