Much like wide receiver on offense, the entire defense ends up getting subbed in and out depending on what packages are being run. However, there are players who will get the most snaps at any given position and be labeled as starters.
Along the defensive line, it’ll be Baltimore’s most experienced player in Brandon Williams matched up with their two new additions in Wolfe and Campbell.
The only spots with any question marks are the two inside linebacker spots and outside linebacker opposite Matthew Judon. But with L.J Fort getting a contract extension and currently being the team’s most experienced inside linebacker, it makes sense that he’s at least penciled into one of the starting jobs.
Opposite Fort is Chris Board, who was given a chance to earn the starting job last year. However, With Board not only failing to win the competition last season but barely getting any playing time on defense, the Ravens are expected to find a definitive starter there either in the 2020 NFL Draft or free agency.
I currently have Jaylon Ferguson as the other starting outside linebacker but just like at right guard, there’s going to be a competition there. Though he hasn’t made the leap forward many expected, Tyus Bowser a lot of snaps last season and was the team’s second-most productive pass rusher with five sacks and 10 quarterback hits. However, I expect the job is Ferguson’s to lose more than Bowser, so I put the second-year player in the starting lineup for the time being instead.
