According to NFL reporter Adam Caplan, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to add another outside pass rusher. Caplan is reporting that the Steelers are planning to sign Philadelphia Eagles free agent outside linebacker Gernard Avery to a one-year contract.
Avery was originally a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns back in 2018 and he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019 for a fourth-round pick.
As a rookie, Avery started five games and finished with 4.5 sacks. He’s never had more than 1.5 sacks in a season since. Pittsburgh is probably hopeful Avery can be a rotational pass rusher and spell both T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. I would not consider a signing like this significant enough to preclude Pittsburgh from drafting an edge rusher in the draft.
Former #Eagles LB Genard Avery is expected to sign with the #Steelers on a one-year deal, source said.
