Rejoice video game and college football fans: The long-awaited return of one of the most beloved franchises appears to be on the horizon.
It’s been a while since EA Sports produced its yearly College Football video game series. The game was shelved due to name, image and likeness issues stemming from the Ed O’Bannon case in the mid-2010s. But, with NIL being granted to student-athletes coming on the horizon, it appears Electronic Arts is prepared to give fans what they want.
The video game developer announced the return on Tuesday morning.

While this is welcome news, there’s no certainty it will be released this year — though, given the timing of the announcement, it seems likely we’ll get a concurrent College Football 2021 release along with Madden ‘21 over the summer.
The big question is: If the game is to return, who will appear on the cover? The last college football student-athlete to grace the cover art was former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, in what was then the final edition of the game, in 2014.
