A lot of players on the Washington Football Team got their proper credit after going into Pittsburgh and beating the previously undefeated Steelers on Monday night in an upset that not many people saw coming, but among the most inspiring storylines was kicker Dustin Hopkins, who has now been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Hopkins finished the game a perfect 5/5 in the kicking game, with three field goals and two extra points. His three field goals all came for 40+ yards, a distance which he has struggled from this season, and two of them came in high-pressure moments with the outcome of the game on the line.
It was thought earlier this season that Ron Rivera would likely bench Hopkins after some of his struggles, but he stuck with him and remain patient. That patience paid off on Monday, and now Hopkins is being rewarded with the Player of the Week honor.
