Duke’s Shavit Kimchi named ACC Freshman of the Year for women’s tennis

Duke’s Shavit Kimchi was named the ACC Freshman of the Year for women’s tennis after a 17-12 singles mark and 14 doubles wins in her debut season.

Duke women’s tennis team member Shavit Kimchi earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors on Friday.

Kimchi also made the All-ACC Third Team, the only Blue Devil to make one of the three all-conference squads.

Kimchi, the 12th female tennis player from Duke to win the award, finished the 2024 season with a 17-12 record in singles and a 14-13 record in doubles. She remained the frontrunner for the award all season after five ACC Freshman of the Week honors.

The freshman also dominated in the clutch. She provided the match-clinching point for the Blue Devils in seven different matchups, tied for the most in a season in school history.

“She worked tremendously hard this year and it is great that coaches in our conference have recognized that,” Duke coach Jamie Ashworth said in a team release about the award. “The ACC has a long-standing tradition of producing great freshmen tennis players and having her name on this list next to some of the all-time greats is something she should be proud of.”

Kimchi also finished conference play with an 8-5 record in singles.
