The Duke women’s basketball team stayed idle last week for the holidays, but coaches around the country still knocked them down one spot on the national ladder.
The updated USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches poll released on Tuesday shifted the Blue Devils (10-3) down one spot to No. 14, sliding them below the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech, still undefeated through 14 games, usurped Duke as the second-highest ACC team in the standings. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish remain No. 3 in the nation despite two losses thanks to a statement win over Connecticut, leaving them behind only the UCLA Bruins and South Carolina Gamecocks.
On the bright side, the Blue Devils stuck above the North Carolina Tar Heels (No. 17) despite UNC’s 13-2 record. Voters clearly still value Duke’s wins over the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners and No. 11 Kansas State Wildcats from last month’s Ball Dawgs Classic.
The Blue Devils return to the court on Thursday with a road game against Boston College, their first appearance since a December 21 loss to South Florida.
