For the second time within 24 hours, a Duke quarterback announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.
On3 transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos said that sophomore Grayson Loftis will enter the transfer portal and search for a new team this offseason. Nakos cited Loftis’s agent, Shane Burnham, in the report.
Loftis didn’t throw a pass for the Blue Devils in 2024, but he picked up four yards on two carries on the ground. He appeared in eight games as a freshman last season, throwing for 1,006 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions.
The South Carolina native put together his best game against Drake Maye and the North Carolina Tar Heels, throwing for 189 yards and scoring four total touchdowns in the 47-45 overtime loss. He completed 55.8% of his passes and averaged 6.2 yards per attempt in that debut season.
Texas Longhorns transfer [autotag]Maalik Murphy[/autotag] won the starting job for 2024, but the coaching staff didn’t name him as the starter until a few weeks before the season to let Loftis challenge him for the top spot on the depth chart. However, with Murphy declaring his intention to enter the transfer portal on Monday night, it appears Henry Belin IV will be the primary quarterback against Ole Miss in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
