Duke football resume gets compared to the Alabama Crimson Tide in social media post

A social media post went viral on Monday night comparing the Duke football resume against an esteemed SEC powerhouse.

In an unexpected twist, college football fans are leveraging the Duke football team against potential College Football Playoff hopefuls.

In a social media post from RedditCFB on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) on Monday, the popular college football fan account questioned whether the Blue Devils measured up against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

After a Saturday loss to the Oklahoma Sooners, Alabama’s third defeat of the season, the perennial powerhouse tumbled to the fringes of playoff contention. However, as RedditCFB pointed out, the Crimson Tide also lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores (6-5) and Tennessee Volunteers, giving their victors a combined record of 21-12.

Duke improved to 8-3 with a 31-28 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday, and the Blue Devils only fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, SMU Mustangs, and Miami Hurricanes. Those three teams sport a combined record of 27-6.

“The CFP may have a 3-loss team in the field this season. If it comes down to these 2, which looks more impressive?” RedditCFB wrote in the caption of its post comparing the two.

RedditCFB sports more than 360,000 followers on the social media platform, and as of Monday night, the post generated more than 15,000 likes.

While the post does fail to include some key context, notably Alabama’s victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, the Blue Devils could have easily won all three of its losses. Duke led Georgia Tech after three quarters, just missed the winning 2-point conversion against SMU, and built an 11-point lead over the Hurricanes in the third quarter.

Duke could clinch its second nine-win season in three years with a victory over Wake Forest on Saturday.
