Duke football commit suffers torn ACL during senior season of high school

Duke football commit Kavon Simmons, a quarterback from Wake Forest who is expected to move to wide receiver in Durham, reportedly tore his ACL.

A potential future Duke football star received some brutal news earlier this month.

According to a Monday report from High School OT’s Joel Bryant, Wake Forest quarterback Kavon Simmons tore his ACL during the second game of his senior season.

A three-star prospect who committed to the Blue Devils back in June, reports during his recruiting process indicated that Duke offered Simmons with the idea of him moving to wide receiver in college. The move makes sense considering that Dan Mahan, another three-star quarterback, already committed to the team in April.

Simmons threw for 218 yards and a touchdown in his only full game of the season, adding 64 yards with his legs. As a junior in 2023, he threw for 1,999 yards and ran for 711 more with 34 total touchdowns.

Despite the injury, Simmons should have some optimism about the process of moving to wideout. Duke star Jordan Moore, who led the team in receiving yards in 2023 and surpassed 100 yards in both of the team’s first two games of 2024, started as a quarterback before changing positions ahead of the 2022 season.
