Duke and Oklahoma set to battle in NCAA baseball regionals and Women’s College World Series

The Blue Devils baseball team will travel to Norman for regionals the same week that Duke softball opens the WCWS against the Sooners.

Blue Devils fans who love watching action on the diamond are about to get very familiar with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Duke softball team will play its first Women’s College World Series game on Thursday against the Sooners, who have won each of the last three national titles. One day later, the Blue Devils baseball team begins the Norman Regional in OU’s home ballpark.

The softball team, which cemented the best season in school history with a win in the tiebreaking third game of the Columbia Super Regional against Missouri, won’t be eliminated no matter what happens on Thursday. The Women’s College World Series is also a double-elimination bracket. The Blue Devils also look for revenge after Oklahoma beat them 3-0 in their first game of the season.

Duke baseball, the second seed in the four-team double-elimination bracket, plays Connecticut to start the weekend. There’s no guarantee the Blue Devils will play the Sooners themselves, but as the two best teams in Oklahoma (on paper), the odds seem higher than not.
