Drew McIntyre explains why WWE fans have seen him upset

Even though he’s “not in a good place,” Drew McIntyre is still hunting a WWE world championship.

Drew McIntyre is still not a happy camper, but at least he knows what he can do to change that.

Just a night after an unsuccessful effort alongside The Judgment Day in the Men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series, McIntyre was in a Triple Threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship against champion Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura at a WWE house show Sunday night.

Prior to his match, the Scottish Warrior cut a backstage promo captured by PWStream that made reference to reports of his unhappiness at Survivor Series, and he kept it more or less in character as he explained why he’s been upset.

I didn’t win the World Title match recently, WarGames last night. My stupid team lost the match for me. You’ve heard things probably on the internet. Not in a great place, but there is one thing that can turn frown upside down, that can change things for me, and it’s getting that World Title. I can’t think of anywhere better than for Big D to finally raise his first world title in front of live fans than right here in Peoria, Illinois. Cheap pop.

Video of McIntyre storming out after WarGames (but prior to CM Punk’s return) circulated widely on social media late Saturday night. That led to speculation that he might be upset at WWE adding a big money free agent at a time when his contract status past the first part of 2024 remains unresolved.

Fightful Select reported Sunday that McIntyre was “legitimately upset by a number of things,” not all related to Punk.

He left the venue, and was seen slamming the locker room door and cursing.

This might be one of those cases where it almost doesn’t matter where what’s on-camera ends and real life begins, because there’s no doubt that the on-screen McIntyre is still unhappy. If he’s channeling real feelings into his work, that can only help it for now, though fans will no doubt be hoping he gets everything resolved as we head into the new year.
