WWE has re-signed some big stars over the past few months, but one who hasn’t reportedly inked a new deal yet is Drew McIntyre.
The Scottish Warrior has been on fire lately, portraying a very nuanced villain who believes he’s been wronged by multiple people and is the only one telling the truth. McIntyre has taken on-screen delight (and even credit) for the misfortunes of others, including the injured CM Punk — and it’s been great.
That would seem to make a contract extension with McIntyre a top priority for WWE, but the more time that passes without one, the more fascination it’s causing among wrestling fans. McIntyre’s personal history, which involves leaving WWE (though not by his choice) to build himself into a bigger star, undoubtedly plays a big part in the speculation.
He’s keenly aware of it too as one of the more press and social media-savvy wrestlers around. That’s why it’s no surprise that when asked about his contract status by The West Sport, McIntyre said he’d prefer to let others keep talking about it over discussing the situation himself (h/t Fightful for the transcription).
I can’t talk about that. I’ll let the internet talk about it. I’ll just keep watching. It’s interesting. I’m not the only one that has a contract in WWE. It’s just interesting that it seems to be mine that is on there every week for a year.
Again, McIntyre knows exactly what he’s doing when he makes comments like these, as they only help keep fans talking about him.
The question now is whether McIntyre will find his way into a championship match at WrestleMania 40 in April. He’ll have perhaps his most direct shot in less than two weeks in Perth, when he competes in the Men’s Elimination Chamber for a shot at World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
