Drew Brees talks Ian Book’s draft outlook

Drew Brees knows a thing or two about being an undersized NFL quarterback.

Had Ian Book left college after the 2019 season there is a good chance he would have gone undrafted, signed a free-agent deal, and who knows where things would be for him entering 2021.

Although some still don’t have it being a closed-case that the former Notre Dame star will get his name called, I’d be pretty surprised considering the season he put up in 2020 and the praise he received at the annual Senior Bowl.

A quarterback of roughly Book’s height who happened to have a pretty good NFL career himself recently spoke about Notre Dame’s winningest starting quarterback, and how he projects to the NFL.

That quarterback was Drew Brees who will be calling Notre Dame games on NBC starting this fall.  Here’s what the future Hall of Famer had to say about Ian Book:

“I had the chance to watch Notre Dame play quite a bit last year,” Brees stated, “That big win against Clemson, I tuned in for most of the fourth quarter and the two overtimes. To watch the team come up with some really big wins and obviously put themselves in a position to make a run at it, Book was a huge part of that. He has been his whole career.

“You can tell his teammates loved him and he endeared himself to his teammates. That’s the number one trait a quarterback can have is that he’s bringing out the best in his teammates and his teammates would run through a wall for him. Certainly, you got that impression from when you watched the way the team would rally around him.”

Book has been projected to be anywhere from a sixth round pick to going undrafted based off the mock drafts we’ve seen.
