What will Drew Brees do when his days of playing football are behind him? Well, he might move up to the press box and take a crack at watching games as an unbiased observer during TV broadcasts, even for New Orleans Saints games.
An ESPN report from earlier this offseason named Brees among several possible candidates who could leave the playing field for a broadcast station, offering his analysis and perspective of games. Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo made the leap in recent years, and it’s clear other networks are eager to try and recreate his success.
And for his part, Brees is up for trying it. “It would be a lot of fun, would be a way of playing the game without playing the game,” Brees said during a Saturday media session following Pro Bowl practices in Orlando, Fla.
He’s eager to give his own spin on action in the NFL, though Brees already sees a hurdle with maybe being too hard on other quarterbacks around the league: “I think you can lay it out and explain it in a way, you’re not critical like ‘wish I had that throw back.'”
Wherever Brees goes next is anyone’s guess, but Saints fans probably aren’t ready to see him hang up his cleats just yet. Hopefully the feeling is mutual.
