Drake Powell keeps junior season alive with Northwood win

UNC basketball commit Drake Powell helped Northwood keep its season alive with a win on Thursday night to advance to the third round.

The UNC basketball program has the No. 1 team in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The four-man class is off to a great start and has the chance to add more.

One of those recruits continues to improve his game: Drake Powell is making a name for himself. 

The Pittsboro, North Carolina, native committed to UNC in 2022 and has improved his stock as a recruit ever since. Powell has been really good in his senior season at Northwood High School and is developing into a really good player.

On Thursday, Powell and Northwood kept their season alive with a win over Westover, advancing to the third round in the NCHSAA playoffs. Northwood is the top seed in the bracket and is looking to capture a state title.
