Saturday’s primetime showdown with Duke will mark Senior Day for the North Carolina Tar Heels as the seniors on the program will play their final game at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
As a tradition, the seniors will walk prior to the game to be honored by the fans. But it also allows other players who are leaving for the draft to also be honored.
For quarterback Drake Maye, a player that many believe will be a top 2 pick, he has decided NOT to walk on Saturday. Instead, Maye told the media on Tuesday that after thinking about it he has decided that Senior Day should be for seniors:
#UNC QB Drake Maye on walking for Senior Day: “I’ve thought about it, but Senior Day should be for seniors.”
Adds, “You never know. I haven’t made a decision.”

In addition to that, Maye did tell the media that he has not made a decision in terms of returning for another year or not. Now, Maye isn’t going to come out in the middle of the season and announce he’s leaving. That very rarely happens in season these days anyway.
With Maye being considered one of the top players to be available in the 2024 NFL draft, it would be shocking to see him return for another season.
Even Mack Brown stated that he thinks Maye should leave and head to the NFL after this season while speaking on Monday.
“I think it’s absolute,” Brown said Monday via Inside Carolina. “It would be mine, very honestly. He’s going to be a first-round draft choice and he’s going to make a lot of money. Is it best for me if he stays? Absolutely, but that’s not who we are.”
Buckle up UNC fans, we are very likely looking at the last few games of the Maye era in Chapel Hill.
