Drake Maye talked to Patriots on ‘getting back to the glory days’

Coming off a stellar pro day performance, top QB prospect Drake Maye had plenty of good things to say about his meeting with the Patriots

Drake Maye has spoken with the New England Patriots multiple times leading up to the 2024 NFL draft, and those conversations have all been productive.

Whether that leads to the Patriots taking the North Carolina quarterback prospect at No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL draft, assuming he’ll even still be there, remains to be seen.

“They’ve been great,” said Maye, when speaking about the Patriots on Thursday. “Coach [Jerod] Mayo, obviously, first year head coach. Congrats to him. Just been in there talking to the new offensive coordinator, with [Alex] Van Pelt and learning their stuff. And it’s been awesome for such a historic program and team and history out there in New England. I was getting a chance to kind of get to know them, get to know what they’re about and kind of their champion mindset of getting back to the glory days has been cool.”

With Caleb Williams likely set to be drafted by the Chicago Bears, the Washington Commanders will be in a position to draft Maye, Jayden Daniels or J.J. McCarthy. The Patriots, on the other hand, will probably have to choose between two of the quarterbacks.

Maye checks all of the boxes physically, but the arm strength and athleticism truly sets him apart as a rookie prospect. There’s also an unwavering confidence about him that tends to be infectious for those around him.

His ability to elevate others is sure to intrigue multiple teams at the next level, including the Patriots.
