Drake Maye moves up in CBS Sports quarterback rankings

UNC football quarterback Drake Maye moved up in the latest CBS Sports quarterback rankings.

The North Carolina Tar Heels enter this week at 5-0, setting up a showdown against 4-1 Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

A big reason why the Tar Heels are 5-0 this season is the play of quarterback Drake Maye who has strung together two impressive games back-to-back over Pitt and then Syracuse. There was a bye week in between those two games but it does feel like Maye is hitting his stride.

And with the performance over Syracuse where he went over 400 yards passing and 4 total touchdowns, Maye is moving up in Tom Fornelli’s weekly quarterback rankings.

Maye went from unranked to No. 7 on the list this week:

Maye’s NFL Draft stock never suffered for it, but his spot in the Power Rankings did. He wasn’t playing up to his standard. Through Carolina’s first three games, he’d thrown four touchdowns to four interceptions wasn’t using his legs much. Over the last two games, though, he’s thrown four touchdowns and rushed for another three. If he plays like he did against Syracuse for the rest of the season, the Heels are a legitimate threat in the ACC. (NR)

Maye began the year ranked right up there with the top quarterbacks in college football but as the season went on, he fell out of Fornelli’s rankings until this past week.

More good showings should put Maye even higher on this list and Saturday against Miami is a good opportunity.
