Drake Maye joins former UNC quarterbacks to achieve feat

UNC football quarterback Drake Maye has tied a program record in the win over Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.

Drake Maye’s big day on Saturday led North Carolina to a 40-7 win over Syracuse to move the Tar Heels to 5-0 on the season.

The first half saw Maye lead the offense on five scoring drives including three touchdowns and two field goals. They added a few more scoring drives in the game as Maye had three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown.

He also had over 400 passing yards, finishing with 442 yards. Doing that, it was his third game of 400 passing yards or more in his career with the Tar Heels. The three 400-plus passing-yard games ties him for the most in North Carolina history with Sam Howell, Mitch Trubisky, and T.J. Yates.

All three of those quarterbacks are considered some of the best in North Carolina history and Maye is well on his way to joining that list as well.

With this likely being Maye’s final year with the Tar Heels, he will have a few more chances to get to a fourth 300-yard passing game. Maye has been fantastic so far this season and these past two games have been the best stretch of the season so far. If he plays like this the rest of the way, the Tar Heels will be a tough team to beat.
