Drake Maye climbing national QB rankings

UNC football quarterback Drake Maye earned some national recognition after another big performance in Week 2 as the Tar Heels are 3-0.

Going into the 2022 season, many thought UNC would see a dropoff at the quarterback position following the departure of Sam Howell to the NFL. But that hasn’t been the case through three games this season with [autotag]Drake Maye[/autotag] leading the charge for what has been a high-powered offense.

Through three games, in which UNC is 3-0, Maye has completed 74.2% of his passes for 930 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He’s added 26 carries for 146 yards and a touchdown, leading the charge for the Tar Heels’ offense.

And now he’s starting to earn some national recognition as well.

Following Week 2, Maye climbed Tom Fornelli’s QB rankings on CBS Sports going from unranked to No. 4 on the list:

That breeze you felt was Maye flying up NFL Draft boards. I was concerned about how North Carolina would replace Sam Howell, but it turns out the Tar Heels have upgraded. Maye is balling. He’s thrown 11 touchdowns and rushed for another, and his team has needed every single one of them because that North Carolina defense is cheeks. (NR)

While UNC’s defense has been bad this season, Maye has been terrific and a big reason why the Tar Heels are 3-0.

The schedule gets tougher for UNC out of the bye week as a date with Notre Dame looms in Week 4 but if Maye can continue his strong play, he can pick up more national recognition and awards.
