The Houston Texans need plenty of help to successfully execute their Great Reset of the Nick Caserio era.
Houston appears to be on pace to have high draft picks with their 1-8 record. The only holdup to Houston having absolute supremacy in the draft order is the Detroit Lions’ inability to win with their 0-8-1 record.
With Houston having the second-best position to take the top prospects, and none of them being franchise quarterbacks out of the box, the Texans will have to look at other positions to accelerate their rebuild.
According to Luke Easterling from the Draft Wire, who released his latest three-round mock, The Texans pick up an edge rusher in Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson with the No. 2 overall selection.
Hutchinson made a wise decision to return for another season in Ann Arbor, dominating on a weekly basis and making himself worthy of this slot.
Houston gives up on Davis Mills with the selection of North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell with the No. 34 overall pick.
In Round 3, the Texans use their first selection to take running back Breece Hall from Iowa State with the No. 66 overall pick, and they follow up with Ohio State cornerback Sevyn Banks, who they got with the No. 85th overall pick from the Orleans Saints.
The draft haul would help the Texans address rush and cover with Hutchinson and Banks. It would also at least fix the run game as the Texans would have a younger, dynamic back. Quarterback would still be an enigma. Not only would the questions arise of whether Howell could beat out Mills, but the next question would be whether the winner of such a battle could still lead the Texans to wins.
The 2022 NFL draft will be held April 28-30 in Las Vegas.
