Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson met with the media Friday as the Jags prepare for their matchup Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
In their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, star quarterback and former Tiger Trevor Lawrence exited the game early with an injury that was later revealed to be a high ankle sprain. Pederson shared an update on Lawrence’s status for their matchup against the Browns Friday to the media.
“It’s more on Trevor, how he feels, and really talking to the docs and seeing medically if he’s not in any harm,” Pederson said regarding Lawrence’s status for Sunday.
Pederson is optimistic that Lawrence will suit up, and given the injury, Lawrence’s playing would be impressive. High ankle sprains can take players out for weeks, but Lawrence has yet to be ruled out.
“We’ve kind of gone through this with him,” Pederson said. “We did it last year with the toe, and we’ve done it this year with the knee, and he’s played – if history suggests – he’s played the next week. Obviously a year ago at Detroit, he played the second half on that injury.
“It just, to me, just shows, one, his toughness — physical toughness, mental toughness. I believe when your quarterback exudes that, I think it does send a message to the rest of your team in a good way. I’m still optimistic obviously for this weekend. But again, the fact that he’s willing and able to put himself out there for his teammates and his team speaks volumes.”
We’ll have to wait and see closer to game time whether Lawrence will be able to suit up or not.
