Doug Pederson says Alshon Jeffery and Carson Wentz have no issues

Doug Pederson was at the NFL Combine to scout future NFL talent and discuss his team’s upcoming 2020 season.

A lingering topic from the 2018 and 2019 seasons entered the discussion when Pederson was asked about the alleged lingering tension between his star quarterback Carson Wentz and stud wide receiver, Alshon Jeffery.

On Tuesday Pederson dismissed the idea, saying that there’s no issue between the two men.

“Yeah, you know, I don’t see that. I think one of the things where Carson really took a big step was in that leadership approach this past year, getting everybody on the same page and on board. It’s just unfortunate because we had a lot of high expectations as an offense going into the season. When pieces started to drop out, it’s just unfortunate that way. But there were no issues between those two.”

There numerous reports surrounding the future of Alshon Jeffery and it’s been suggested that the Eagles wide receiver “would welcome the change of scenery” that came with a trade.

Shortly after the report, Jeffery’s agent weighed-in on the conversation, not necessarily refuting the report, but stating that his client loves playing in Philly.

Injury-riddled and just not himself this season, Jeffery snagged 43 balls for 490 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games.

Jeffery is due a guaranteed $11.5 million next season after restructuring his contract last fall and will spend the bulk of the offseason and training camp recovering from Lisfranc surgery on his foot.

With the Eagles having to eat $26 million in dead salary cap space if they outright released Jeffery, the only viable options are a repair of the relationship or trade of the wide receiver to another franchise for suitable compensation in return.
