Don’t doubt Dabo Swinney, ESPN analyst says after Clemson football’s Week 4 dominance

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers’ victory over NC State was at the top of this ESPN analyst’s list of takeaways from Week 4 of the college football season.

Reports of the Clemson Tigers‘ demise have been exaggerated.

Never mind that said demise came from many of the same people who called the proverbial time of death on Swinney and Clemson football like a scene from some long-forgotten soap opera.

In his Week 4 college football breakdown, ESPN staff writer David Hale offered a simple message following Clemson’s 59-35 blasting of rival NC State over the weekend: “Don’t doubt Dabo.”

Per Hale:

“Somewhere in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a guy named Tyler is in his mom’s basement telling the folks on the Clemson sub-Reddit that he knew Dabo Swinney would get things fixed all along.

Indeed, after Clemson’s season-opening disaster against Georgia, it has been a fireworks display for the once-maligned Tigers offense…

Cade Klubnik threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 70 more, while scoring a fourth TD on the ground in the win. In 17 drives with Klubnik at QB over the past two games, Clemson has scored 15 touchdowns and punted just once.”

Hale made a lighthearted joke about Swinney’s critics who have slammed the coach for not being more active in the transfer portal.

“Ever understanding of outside criticism, Swinney followed the dominant win by quietly sneaking up behind several reporters, pulling their underwear up to their shoulders and yelling, “That’s what I think about your transfer portal, loser!” before running away whooping and shouting.”
