Dominique Hampton continues Washington’s showcase at NFL combine

Dominique Hampton continued Washington’s run of strong athletic testing at the NFL Combine on Friday.

Linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio set the tone for Washington’s week at the NFL combine, but safety Dominique Hampton set a new bar for the Huskies on Friday.

Hampton ran a 4.51 40-yard dash, a top ten time among all safeties in Indianapolis, an eye-opening outing considering he measured at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds. The sixth-year senior also posted a 39 inch in the vertical jump, tied for fifth among safeties, and broad jumped 10 feet 2 inches, which placed him just outside the top 10 at his position.

While those numbers were among the best for the most part, Hampton truly stood out in the agility drills. His 6.83 3-cone drill ranked as an elite time according to Relative Athletic Score and was the better of the two times posted by safeties in attendance (Washington State safety Jaden Hicks ran a 6.88 in the event). Hampton and Hicks were the only two to run the short shuttle as well, with Hampton posting a 4.14 – another elite time.

Hampton’s Relative Athletic Score unofficially sits at a 9.77 out of 10 with the agilities included, scores that are compiled by James Foster of AtoZ Sports, also listed Hampton as the most athletic safety in the draft.

Hampton’s performance came after NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah tabbed the senior as one of the players he’d be watching closely in Indianapolis. He went into the week projected as a day three pick with core special teams ability, but his testing could push him as high as the fourth or fifth round.

The NFL Combine continues Saturday with Michael Penix Jr., Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan, and Ja’Lynn Polk set to work out on the field.
