You know the drill well enough by now, Dolphins fans. Miami is looking for physical, smart, blue collar football players to add to their roster — and they’re willing to go through just about any lengths to find them. We’ve seen Miami flip players in straight up swaps with other NFL teams, comb through the waiver wire and work out CFL prospects.
But this? This is the good stuff.
Because you don’t have to watch too much Auburn Tigers football to realize this team is loaded with NFL talent. And, as you’d expect, the Miami Dolphins showed up in full force at the Auburn Pro Day to put some of the best prospects the SEC has to offer through their paces.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins didn’t just have Chris Grier and scouts at Auburn’s Pro Day yesterday, the group also featured Brian Flores and defensive coordinator Josh Boyer.
Source at Auburn pro day today tells me that not only is Grier there but also Flores and other coaches/staffers, including Josh Boyer. Three high end defensive prospects from Auburn on his draft (DT Brown, CB Igbinoghene, DL Davidson).

You thought the Dolphins were going to only address the offensive this offseason? Guess again. Because of the Auburn prospects in attendance, three defenders are expected to be among the first 50 selections:
- DT Derrick Brown
- CB Noah Igbinoghene
- DL Marlon Davidson
Each would be an excellent fit with the Dolphins, too. Which is why, according to Jackson’s report, the Dolphins showed up a day early and provided a group workout for the Tigers — hoping to test their mental acumen and find out who may be a “must have” along the defensive front lines.
“Grier, Flores and other Dolphins coaches took all of Auburn’s draft-eligible defensive prospects into a room and did a defensive install with them,” wrote Jackson.
“Flores sat with the defensive linemen during the install, to get a close read on how Brown and Davidson soaked up the information, their level of focus and the questions they asked.”
With this level of depth to the pre-draft process, it isn’t hard to envision the Dolphins properly tabbing their guys for April’s NFL Draft.
