Jones was in the Pro Bowl following the 2017 season, his second of two career trips to the Pro Bowl. As Schefter noted, this move saves the Dolphins $5.3 million in cap money.
The 32-year-old was the longest-tenured Dolphins player. He had two years left on a five-year, $60 million deal he signed prior to that 2017 Pro Bowl season. But injuries have gotten to him of late. He has had two shoulder surgeries and last season played in just four games due to chest and ankle injuries. When healthy, he still a very talented player.
The Raiders were said to be interested in Broncos free safety Justin Simmons, but the fifth-year safety is expected to be retained by Denver on a franchise tag.
