Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick ranked as NFL’s 4th-best personality

Typically, NFL players hit their peak in their late 20s. It offers the right blend of peak athleticism and experience that affords players the chance to play at their absolute best before Father Time starts to slow everyone down. Some positions, such as running backs and cornerbacks, are more prone to a steep drop off than others — but yet some players are able to buck the traditional curve of an NFL career and find their stride later in life.

Consider Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick among them. Fitzpatrick played some of the best football of his career in 2019 as a 37-year old quarterback. Fitzpatrick has become something of a folk hero in the NFL along the way, budding from a career journeyman at quarterback and transitioning over the past five seasons into an energetic pied piper at quarterback. He’s inspired teammates in each of his last three stops (New York with the Jets, Tampa Bay and now Miami) and his chaotic style of play results in quite the roller coaster of results.

And now Fitzpatrick has been ranked as one of the top-5 overall personalities in the NFL right now by NFL Network’s Good Morning Football.

Slotting in at 4th overall behind Mark Ingram, Tre’Davious White and Kirk Cousins, Fitzpatrick is certainly a treat to watch interact with his teammates on and off the field. Fitzpatrick’s most famous moment came in Tampa Bay, where he “borrowed” teammate Desean Jackson’s outfit for a post-game press conference despite the fact that it was probably two sizes two small. Between incidents like that and Fitzpatrick’s outrageously good beard, the Harvard graduate is most definitely one of a kind. But as he enters his 16th NFL season, Fitzpatrick is hoping to capture more NFL success. To date he’s only posted two seasons with a winning record as a quarterback.

  • 2016 with the Jets: 10-6
  • 2017 with the Buccaneers: 2-1

If Fitzpatrick can be this energizing and popular as a scrappy underdog, imagine how much more inspirational he could be if he finds the winning formula late in his outrageous, one of a kind career. 2020 might be his final ride — so expect plenty of action from the man known as ‘Fitzmagic’ throughout the year.
