Dolphins proving savvy to keep media off of their intentions

The Miami Dolphins, with all of the recent uncertainty regarding their plans at the quarterback position, deserve a bit of credit. Because as the 2020 NFL Combine rolls to a close today in Indianapolis, it is clear that this team has thrown everyone for a loop. There are reports out of the Combine that the Dolphins still want Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa as their choice of a top quarterback. But there’s also a sizable amount of buzz around the Dolphins and Oregon QB Justin Herbert.

Oh, right. The Dolphins also apparently like Utah State’s Jordan Love, too — with there being a sprinkling of assertion that Jordan Love might be in play for Miami.

In short, all the certainty of the Dolphins offseason plans from those on the outside is up in smoke. And that’s exactly how the Dolphins would like to have it. Because if the intention is to trade up to the 3rd overall pick with Detroit, the Lions will hold the Dolphins over the fire until they eventually yield to the asking price for the 3rd overall pick.

And so now, with the home stretch of the NFL Draft process before us, the Dolphins have relayed one thing for sure — they’ve got options. And if the conflicting reports have anything to say about it, the team isn’t afraid to use them, either.

When the Dolphins look to make their decision, there is a decent chance the team will look back and say they knew where they wanted to take their rebuild back in Indianapolis. But the rest won’t be true for the rest of us. Credit to Miami for that.
