The Miami Dolphins are a busy, busy bunch. The team is continuing their recent uptick in activity regarding the bottom of their 2019 active roster in what appears to be a proactive effort to stash and store talent for the 2020 offseason to ensure Miami has the best available roster entering training camp next summer.
The Dolphins’ 2019 season was considered one for evaluation, but that evaluation extends beyond their own 53-man roster — as evidenced by the slew of roster moves Miami has made over the course of the last few weeks. Miami has kept their pro scouts busy, prowling and scouting the waiver wire and opposing practice squads to find ideal talent to poach when the opportunity strikes.
And the Dolphins have struck yet again, snatching up three players ahead of Week 15.
To make room for the three new Miami Dolphins, the team placed CBs Ken Webster and Ryan Lewis on injured reserve while also waiving RB Zach Zenner.
In return the Dolphins have added DB Nate Brooks off of the New England Patriots practice squad, LB Jamal Davis off of the Tennessee Titans practice squad and claimed OL Adam Pankey off of waivers after he was cut by Green Bay.
Pankey is a third-year veteran out of West Virginia who brings a lot of physicality to the point of attack, he was known for his power coming out of college. Brooks is a North Texas product who went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. Davis was a 2019 NFL Combine workout warrior from Akron, posting a 4.6 second 40-yard dash and a 39″ vertical leap to go along with prototypical size for a potential rush linebacker in the NFL.
The Dolphins will look to find reps for their new additions, but don’t expect to see much of them. These additions all feel like developmental stashes more than anything else.
