Dolphins land interior OL in Mel Kiper’s latest 2-round mock draft

He could be a replacement for Liam Eichenberg.

In just over two weeks, all 32 teams will begin making selections in Kansas City, Missouri for the 2023 edition of the NFL draft.

As we draw nearer to the start of the event, experts are continuing to predict what will happen. ESPN’s Mel Kiper recently produced the latest version of his two-round mock draft, in which the Dolphins selected TCU interior offensive lineman Steve Avila with pick No. 51.

Here’s what Kiper wrote about the selection:

“The Dolphins have just four picks in this draft, two on Day 2 and two on Day 3. I could see them trading down to try to add more. I also see Avila being a good fit because of his versatility. He played every O-line position except for left tackle in college, seeing most of his time at center and left guard. Guard is likely where he would play for Miami. He’s a strong run blocker but he had some inconsistent reps in pass protection.”

At this moment, Miami is set to enter the 2023 season with Liam Eichenberg and Dan Feeney potentially fighting it out for the starting left guard spot. And, while they’ve both started there in the past, it may not be exactly ideal.

With Terron Armstead and Connor Williams on both sides of the guard, a transition to a rookie may be made easier.
