Dolphins GM Chris Grier’s 2020 objective is to “continue building”

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier spoke with the media yesterday at the NFL Combine and revealed his objective for 2020.

What a difference a year makes. In 2019, Chris Grier and the Miami Dolphins strode into Indianapolis for the annual NFL Combine with the intention of tearing down their roster as much as possible — an unfortunate but necessary evil of Miami’s shift in team philosophies. Now? Quite the contrary for Grier and company.

Chris Grier met informally with the South Florida media on Tuesday and spoke about what the Dolphins need to do from here. The first words out of his mouth?

“Just continue building.”

Amen to that. The Dolphins are still in the infancy stages of their rebuild — the team is on the upswing but still shouldn’t be considered a viable AFC contender. Which means, to Grier’s point, the team needs to continue to stock up on talent across the board and continue infusing fresh talent to the foundation set by the team’s 2019 effort. The positions? They matter, but then again they really don’t. This team needs more talent, period.

“Just continue building. Last year I think was a good year for – I think Brian (Flores) and the coaching staff did a great job of establishing the culture. The narrative was out there — we were tanking, and that clearly was not what we were doing,” said Grier.

“It’s important to establish that culture of winning, the importance of winning and doing things the right way. So for us, it’s just to keep building upon that and I think we got a good start at the end of the year of how we played the second half of the season, and we’ve just got to keep building from there.”

In short? The Dolphins are in line to “trust the process” regarding their team rebuild and continue to stay the course. The only question now is whether or not that process is going to demand the Dolphins aggressively attack the quarterback position — or whether or not the team would rather elect to let the board fall to them in April.
