The Miami Dolphins came out swinging as the NFL’s legal tampering period got underway early last week. By the time free agency officially opened on Wednesday, Miami had agreed to terms with a number of new starters for the roster — headlined by cornerback Byron Jones and linebacker Kyle Van Noy. Now, as the first week of NFL free agency comes to a close, the Dolphins have officially secured their new talent.

The Dolphins have formalized and inked 10 additions in free agency — in addition to the resigning of safety Adrian Colbert, who joined the Dolphins late in the 2019 season. With the signings formalized and the contracts signed, the Dolphins can now shift their focus to April’s NFL Draft; unless of course the team has hopes of manufacturing player deals via trade along the way.

The Dolphins’ formalized signings of unrestricted free agents includes:

CB Byron Jones
LB Kyle Van Noy
OG Ereck Flowers
DE Shaq Lawson
DE Emmanuel Ogbah
RB Jordan Howard
LB Elandon Roberts
OL Ted Karras
LB Kamu Grugier-Hill
SAF Clayton Fejedelem

The writing on the wall for Miami? This team felt the offensive value in free agency wasn’t worth swinging for the fences on. But defensively, this team has added a number of players that should command significant reps when the 2020 season rolls around.

Thankfully for Miami, none of the unique circumstances around travel restrictions hindered the team’s ability to finalize any of their deals — and the Dolphins can shift their focus forward to where they need to go from here in order to best align this team for future success.
