Dolphins’ final 1st-round pick of 2020 locked in as Texans fall

The Miami Dolphins now know the fate of their first draft selection traded for OT Laremy Tunsil after the Texans were eliminated yesterday.

Good news, Dolphins fans! When you tune into the 2020 NFL Draft’s first night on Thursday, April 23rd, you won’t have to wait very long in between selections being made by your Miami Dolphins. You already knew that, but now we know the final details — the Dolphins’ top-100 NFL Draft selections this April are officially locked and loaded.

The Dolphins have been waiting on the Houston Texans to be eliminated from the 2020 playoffs in order to get some finality with their draft selections, and now they have it. The Texans have been eliminated after falling 51-31 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC’s Divisional Round, but not before the Texans provided Miami with a scare by jumping out to a 24-0 lead over the Chiefs in Arrowhead on Sunday afternoon.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Chiefs returned the favor to the Dolphins by outscoring Houston 51-7 in the final three quarters, becoming the first team in NFL history to trail by 24+ points in the first half and still lead at halftime. Kansas City, of course, was indebted to the Dolphins for knocking off the New England Patriots in Week 17 to provide the Chiefs with the home field advantage and a 1st-round bye.

And with the Texans out, Miami knows their third and final 1st-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft will fall 26th in the order. To recap, the Dolphins will be responsible for the following picks in the top-100:

  • 5th overall
  • 18th overall (Pittsburgh)
  • 26th overall (Houston)
  • 39th overall
  • 56th overall (New Orleans)
  • 70th overall

We’ll need to wait and see if the Dolphins hold their cards or make some trades to manipulate the NFL Draft board — but these are exciting times either way!
