Dolphins Dive: Storylines for Week 14 versus the Jets

What are the key storylines for the Dolphins’ Week 14 matchup against the New York Jets?

When it comes to the Miami Dolphins’ three wins this season, the margin for victory was a key turnover, as it is in most NFL matchups. Whether it was last week against the Philadelphia Eagles or the Week 9 dogfight against the New York Jets, the Dolphins grabbing a key interception was a major factor. While Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw an interception against Philly, punter Matt Haack throwing a one-yard touchdown pass to kicker Jason Sanders on a fake field goal to make up the difference.

What can Miami do this weekend to sweep the Jets for 2019? That’s for this week’s round of the Dolphins Dive.

DeVante Parker produces in the air

Fitzpatrick may have put up 365 yards with three touchdowns against the Eagles, but 159 of those yards and two of those touchdowns were hauled in by wide receiver DeVante Parker. Say what you will about the Miami offense but Parker’s 20 catches for 385 yards in his past three appearances make him a force that the defense must watch for. Can the Jets cover him?

Jamal Adams a multi-tier threat to Dolphins

For all the problems that the Jets have, one player that gives any offensive coordinator headaches in preparation is safety Jamal Adams.  While Adams is perfectly cable of defending passes, he can also attack a passer in a blitz. In his past five games, the Pro Bowl defensive back has recorded 6.5 sacks and as well as a safety in his previous outing against Miami in Week 9.

There’s just one problem — the star safety is listed as “Doubtful” on the team’s final injury report for Week 14. His absence would be a huge loss for New York.

Taco Charlton enjoying a resurgence in Miami

While the nation is criticizing Dallas’ underperformance in 2019, one former Cowboy flourishes despite being dubbed a bust for the organization.  Leading the team so far this season with a career-high five sacks, Taco Charlton has tallied one in five of his past six contests.  He also recorded a forced fumble against Philly.
