Dolphins among NFL franchises to suspend travel amid health crisis

The new coronavirus crisis marks uncharted waters for the American public. The spread of this illness has been sudden since entering the US and as a result public events, gathering and functions and dwindled to nearly zero. Along with the suspension or indefinite postponement on major sports leagues like the NBA, the NHL and MLB, the NFL franchises have begun to take action in an effort to take action and keep their employees safe.

The NFL plans, as of now, to force ahead with their scheduled new league year next week. But the free agent visitations and Pro Day circuit for the NFL Draft have been tabled; no one seems to be going anywhere. That includes the Dolphins, who yesterday decided to suspend travel for all scouts and employees.

Forget the football implications — they’re really secondary relative to the scope of what all is going on across the country. Patience will be key. The timeline and timeframe of suspended activities is completely unknown at this point and the major leagues across all sports may even push back their target dates once more. That may also impact the Dolphins and the rest of the NFL, especially if the league is going to desire to be on the other side of a public health crisis before entertaining a live draft event next month.

As we said, this is a fairly unprecedented set of circumstances — but the Dolphins are now among the teams to feel the squeeze of the virus and have taken measures to ensure the health of their employees.
