Does the Texas A&M basketball team have an enough talent to make a run?

Buzz Williams knows his team is resilient enough to make it to the NCAA Tournament, but are they talented enough to make a run?

College basketball sees a lot of top talent cycle through at a high rate due to the rule around them entering the draft. You hear a lot about one-and-done or kids bypassing college altogether, opting to play in alternative leagues until they are eligible to be drafted by the NBA.

The next tier of guys typically goes to the more traditional blue-blood basketball schools like Duke, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Texas A&M is generally an afterthought, and their top-rated class in the last few decades came in 2015 with Tyler Davis, DJ Hogg, and Admon Gilder, who all ranked in the top 10 in Texas that recruiting cycle.

In Buzz Williams’ tenure, he never recruited a top-15 class, but he’s had some success in the transfer portal, bringing in experienced guys who fit his system.

However, this season, the potential for what they can pull off as a complete team from top to bottom is almost limitless. While Buzz knows he might not have a team full of national marquee names, he does have a veteran team that has no quits in it.

“I do think our talent is OK. I don’t think it’s overwhelming. I don’t think it’s the upper echelon of the SEC or the nation. It’s the effort and the attitude and the consistency of everybody in the organization.” – Buzz

They have shown they can hang with the best, beating several Quad 1 and 2 teams early in the nonconference.

Texas A&M will return home to face Abilene Christian at Reed Arena on Dec. 28 at 3:00 p.m. CST. The game can be watched on the SEC Network.
