Does former Celtic Avery Bradley deserve a title ring with L.A.?

If he wants one, he’ll likely get one — but did ex-Boston Celtic Avery Bradley earn a title ring with the Los Angeles Lakers?

While four Boston Celtics alumni played for the two teams who ended up in the 2020 NBA Finals, you may have noticed only three of them played in the Finals, the fourth electing to sit out the Disney ‘bubble’ restart instead.

That fourth alumnus would be former Celtic guard Avery Bradley, who decided to remain outside of the Disney NBA campus with his family, citing family reasons.

While there is no shame in such a decision, the question which has arisen since the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in Game 6 to win the title is whether or not the former Celtic guard ought to receive a ring.

Teammate and fellow Celtics alumnus Rajon Rondo undoubtedly will, having scored 19 points in the series-clinching win Sunday. Fellow Celtics alumni Kelly Olynyk and Jae Crowder — who Rondo helped eliminate along with the rest of the Heat — of course will not as members of the losing team.

But will Bradley?

Perhaps a better question is whether he is going to accept the one he is offered, as general manager Rob Pelinka has already gone on record to say he plans to give the Texas product one if L.A. won according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes — and they did.

“Will I accept the ring?” asked Bradley (via Haynes). “I’m neither here nor there about it.”

“I am 10 years in this league. The physical possession of a ring doesn’t make me feel like more or less of a person. I play basketball strictly for enjoyment and to add to the support of my family. Supporting them is exactly what I’m doing right now.”

As we noted, no shame whatever in taking care of what matters most first in these difficult times.

But it seems the question of whether one or two Celtics alumni earned a ring Sunday night will only be settled by Avery himself, at least as far as official things go.
