Doc Rivers, Seth Curry react to big offensive night in win over Lakers

Doc Rivers and Seth Curry react to a big offensive night in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to do just enough to hold off the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night 109-101 to improve to 3-0 to begin the 6-game road trip. That is mostly due to the fact that they put up 45 triples on their way to the win.

Seth Curry returned after missing two games with an ankle injury and he put up 19 points while knocking down four triples on eight attempts. It was a big night for Curry and the rest of the Sixers and it was needed on a night when they did not have a true big man to turn to.

“He was great,” said coach Doc Rivers. “It’s amazing, you don’t know what you’re gonna get. We didn’t know he’s gonna play until an hour really before game time. I felt like he was and then you just don’t know what you’re gonna get when guys are out. He was huge for us.”

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/d8b9c085-4226-44f1-8495-36ad4e2aa62d”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

The fact that the Sixers were not able to have a big man in this one, they had to play a bit of a different style than usual. They had to play a faster style and that led to Curry and the rest of the Sixers were able to fire up 3-pointers.

“We put more shooters out on the floor,” said Curry. “We opened it up, we played a different style, we played at a good pace today, pushing the ball, and we got good looks. I feel like most of them were good looks and it’s a fun style of basketball to play. More pace in the half-court, driving, kicking, everybody gets involved. It helps the offense when we get up more 3s.”

Curry was able to have success despite having some issues with his ankle late. He made a big floater late to seal the win despite the ankle giving him some trouble.

“It felt solid early on,” he explained. “It kind of got sore on me as the game went along, but it felt pretty good.”

The Sixers will now move on to face the Los Angeles Clippers on the road on Saturday.
