Doc Rivers says Sixers focused on bigger goals than the All-Star game

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers says the team has bigger goals than the All-Star game.

The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the more talented teams in the league and that is proven by currently being the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference 31 games into the season.

Success such as theirs means they will have multiple representations at the All-Star game on March 7 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Joel Embiid was voted in as a starter while Ben Simmons was named a reserve for the Eastern Conference and that was to be expected, but there was a third player who arguably deserved an appearance and that is Tobias Harris.

Harris, unfortunately, was not named to the game despite averaging career-highs in points and field goal percentage. Still, coach Doc Rivers says the team has bigger goals in mind.

“We’re playing for some bigger, honestly,” said Rivers who will coach Team Durant in the game. “Making the All-Star team is phenomenal and I do think we should have three on there. If we do, great if we don’t, I still believe we should’ve had three on there, but after that, we move on to the next goal and the biggest goal for us is winning.”

One might think Harris would be upset with the snub, which he probably is, but that doesn’t last very long. Guys brush that off and continue to keep playing as hard as they can.

“I don’t think anyone gets deterred for the rest of the season,” Rivers finished. “They get disappointed for one night, and then they prove the rest of the year that they should have made the All-Star team.”

The Sixers will take on the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday to finish up a two-game road series at 7:30 p.m. EST.
