Doc Rivers says he has talked to Ben Simmons, unsure of progression

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers says he has talked to Ben Simmons, but he is still unsure of his progression.

The Philadelphia 76ers are still waiting on a resolution to the Ben Simmons saga. The Sixers maintain they would like to have him back on the floor — and rightfully so — and they will not settle for anything less than a top-25 player in a trade.

Simmons has not yet played for the Sixers in the 2021-22 season. He continues to work through mental issues to get back on the floor, according to his camp. There have been few updates, but coach Doc Rivers mentioned he talked to Simmons recently.

“He’s doing good,” said Rivers. “And, yes, I have talked to him recently.”

In terms of any progress toward returning to the floor, the coach offered no details.

“I don’t know any of that,” Rivers added. “That’s the stuff that I’ve intentionally stayed out of. I have enough on my plate. I don’t feel like I’ve needed to add that.”

The Sixers will face the Washington Wizards on Sunday to begin a three-game road trip.
