While Doc Rivers is out promoting his new podcast with ESPN, it’s clear he’s also trying to do a bit of damage control on the 76ers end with Ben Simmons.
He’s been trying to send the clear message that the 76ers want their All-Star to come back to the team this season. That is despite Simmons reportedly saying he never wants to play for them again.
Rivers had been saying all the right things to try and get Simmons back…until he made an appearance on MSNBC…where he compared trying to convince Simmons to come back to convincing someone that Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election.
You can’t make this up, y’all.
76ers: “Doc, go do some damage control on national TV so Ben will want to stay in Philly.”
Doc: “There’s times that I think we’re getting through, and there’s times that I think I’m talking to people who still believe Trump won the election.” pic.twitter.com/laAvKOdtGN

“We’re going to try [to get Simmons back]. There’s times that I think we’re getting through. And there’s times that I think I’m talking to people who still beleive Trump won the election.”
Woof. I’m certain that will go over well with Simmons. It should go a long way in convincing him to come back to Philadelphia.
Be ready to move on, 76ers fans. This one feels done.
