CAMDEN, N.J. — As it stands, the Philadelphia 76ers have 14 players on their roster and two two-way players. Therefore, they have one roster spot open: The NBA limit for active players on a roster is 15.
The fact the Sixers have the one roster spot open gives them the flexibility to make a move before the season opener on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics.
As the team resumed work on Sunday, coach Doc Rivers gave some insight into what Philadelphia is thinking with that final roster spot as a move might be coming.
“I’m fine with that,” said Rivers. “We believe that there’s a lot of guys out there that may become available, and we wanted to make sure we had a spot.”
It will be interesting to see who Rivers is talking about, but whoever shakes free, the Sixers figure to be in the conversation to add a veteran to the roster to help them on a title run in the 2022-23 season.
